Client: British Paralympic Association
Event: Deloitte Ride Across Britain
Brief: The British Paralympic Association (BPA) is responsible for sending the best prepared ParalympicsGB team to every summer and winter Paralympic Games. As a registered charity they needed a fundraising event to help fund the team for London 2012 Paralympic Games, Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games and beyond.
Response: The BPA was selected as Deloitte’s charity partner for the event. It was a welcome addition to the long standing corporate partnership between the two organisations already in place. Deloitte Ride Across Britain offered BPA supporters and fundraisers the opportunity to take part in an event that truly reflects the grit and determination of the British Paralympic team. As part of the BPA’s involvement, Paralympian’s such as Dame Sarah Storey and Jody Cundy and retired Paralympian and BPA Chairman Tim Reddish OBE have completed the Ride because of the relationship between the BPA and Deloitte Ride Across Britain.
Results: After the first two Deloitte RAB events in 2010 and 2011, the total raised for BPA was already over £800,000 and this contributed significantly to the preparations that could be put in place at the London 2012 Paralympic Games for the team to be best prepared, winning a total of 120 medals and finishing 3rd on the medal table. To date, Deloitte employees who have taken part in the Ride have now raised over £1.5 million for the BPA. The BPA soon became the Ride’s official charity to help highlight the organisations need for fundraising support and to maximise fundraising revenue. In addition, by integrating the charity into the Ride all participants got a real insight into the time and dedication it takes to be a World Class athlete and be selected for ParalympicsGB.
