Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest charities, providing physical, financial and emotional support so everyone with cancer can live life as fully as they can. They also look into the social, emotional and practical impact cancer will have on the patient and their families. In 2018, they asked us to help them deliver a series of fundraising events in the UK in aid of Macmillan, and we were delighted to deliver these again in 2019.
What did Threshold recommend?
These events were called the Macmillan Mighty Hikes and in both 2018 and 2019 we delivered 8 separate Mighty Hikes for them as part of the series. The locations for these hikes were the South Coast, Jurassic Coast, Thames Path, Lake District, Northumberland Coast, Peak District, Rob Roy and Wye Valley.
For 2020 we have added an additional 4: Yorkshire Dales, Giant’s Causeway, Dedham Vale and Gower Peninsula.
Who took part?
Across the 8 events we helped 18,648 participants complete their challenge. Each event used 62 crew members to ensure it ran smoothly and we used 40 venues, 179,000 snacks and 64,000 litres of water in total across the series. These are just some of the figures to show how big an operation these events are.
How did we do?
“It’s not a challenge to be underestimated – I definitely earned every penny of my sponsorship! The feeling when I crossed the finish line made all the aches worth it and I would do it all over again.”
