Introducing CRUK Fundraiser, Debs

AN INCREDIBLE FUNDRAISER FOR ONE OF OUR BIGGEST CHARITY PARTNERS, CANCER RESEARCH UK.

In the world of challenge events, we know that fundraising can be just as difficult as putting the mileage in. How do you keep going back to the same friends and family, extracting as much generosity as possible?

It’s difficult, no question. But it is achievable. And giving up is easy – right?

Introducing Debs, a loyal supporter and incredible fundraiser for one of our biggest charity partners, Cancer Research UK.

In 2012, Debs lost her boss, Emma, to breast cancer and her Mum, Marion, to lung and brain cancer within weeks of each other. Four weeks previously, her brother Rob was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer. Rob has survived 6 years this April and remains her inspiration.

Quite incredibly, Debs has since raised over £70k for Cancer Research UK. Here are her top 5 tips to keep that motivation going and keep the pounds rolling in…

  1. Invite everyone on your social media journey
Get your regular updates uploaded across multiple platforms, ideally in your charity branding. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat. Remember those milestones in your fundraising, whether it’s £100 or £1,000 – and celebrate it!
  1. Collate a friends & family email list
Send out regular email updates on your training and fundraising, always including your fundraising link. Not everyone will see each update on social media, but all will see your email and hopefully feel more connected with your journey.
  1. Put your own skills to advantage
If you’re a good baker, then you know what to do! Otherwise, it might be skills related to your job or hobby. Whatever you do best, can you put a fundraising spin on it?
  1. Advertise ‘the old way’
Along with social media, get posters printed to put up around your work, gym or community spots. You’ll be surprised by how many donations will come in through this.
  1. Piggyback off social events
Whether it’s quizzes, film nights or parties – include a fundraising element and encourage those to give. See what donations you can secure for raffles, or what venues can be supplied for good causes.

These are just some of many fundraising tips out there, but Debs has shown that a huge amount of money can be raised through sheer determination and commitment.

Think you can’t do it? Think again.

Cancer Research UK are leading title charity on Dulux Trade London Revolution, and gold charity partner on Deloitte Ride Across Britain, Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones, and Race to the King.
